The Academic Lowdown

University of California, Los Angeles (Los Angeles, California)

UCLA is divided into seven main colleges. The majority of undergraduates do their work in the College of Letters and Sciences, although some find themselves in the School of Arts and Architecture or the School of Theater, Film, and Television. Whatever the interest, there is an academic program to match it at UCLA.
The university is also home to one of the country’s largest university libraries, which is just one of many academic resources available to students. The library has more than eight million books, but if that’s not enough, there are academic support centers and tutoring centers available for students to go for additional help. Sometimes at universities as large as UCLA students can feel disconnected or without a place to check in and get help, but students say that that’s rarely the case at UCLA.
The university has top notch classrooms and laboratories as well, which is critical to its success as a research university. Such facilities can be used by undergraduates and graduate students alike.

What to do at UCLA

University of California, Los Angeles (Los Angeles, California)

UCLA, located in the Westwood neighborhood of Los Angeles (nearby to the posh Beverly Hills), not only offers a world-class education, but also offers a campus scene that will make the next four years of your life unforgettable. There are over 800 registered student organizations and more than 60 Greek organizations, not to mention all of the different athletic programs. Whatever your interest, UCLA probably has something to match it with.
There is a huge number of student organizations, and these organizations cater to seemingly every interest. From performing arts to martial arts, language to religion, there seems to be an organization hosting a different event every day. This means that campus is lively and interesting, and there is always something to do. The student government is also very active.
Athletics are also important at UCLA. The UCLA Bruins are a Division I Pac 10 school, and year after year the Bruins take home titles. The campus always seems to come together to support different teams during different seasons!

UCLA: Popularity and Competition

University of California, Los Angeles (Los Angeles, California)

The University of California Los Angeles is the sort of school everyone knows by name. Whether it is because you’re a Bruins fan and you’ve watched various teams win NCAA title after title, or it is because you know that UCLA’s faculty has won more awards than most other schools, there is something about the university that everyone has heard about.
One of the most interesting facts about UCLA is that it receives more applications than any other college or university in the United States. Every year over 50,000 students apply, and only about 20% of those students are actually accepted. The student body is made up of about 27,000 undergraduates and 11,000 graduate students, so naturally there just isn’t room for everyone who applies.
Whatever it is that has drawn you to UCLA, keep in mind that it is a very popular school, and such popularity has led to increasing competition over the years.
